The Second Temple

road to jericho

This work was painted from a scale model,
researched and designed by
Professor Michael Avi-Yonah, the artist's father.
Depicted is the blue-white marble
sanctuary of the Temple
which stood 165 feet (50 meters) tall.
In the foreground, to the right,
are the four towers of the Antonia Fortress.
The artist renders the
special aura of the dawn light
illuminating the Temple.
Hovering above, is a cloud formation
in the shape of the Hebrew letter 'Shin'.

mixed media on canvass.
35" x 24" (90 x 62 cm)

Many of the above paintings are available
as serigraphs and posters,
as well as other versions
in different sizes and color schemes.
